Apologies for generating all the discussion on this image; I did not have it in my Watchlist and missed the commotion.

As explained in the editing history, this image was originally uploaded under the name "American Civil War Montage.jpg", but for some unknown reason it was copied by another user and renamed "American Civil War Montage 2.jpg". The three components of the photomontage were downloaded from Wikipedia and are cited as being sourced from the Library of Congress. Specific details of locations are in the editing history. All three photos are in the public domain because they were published in the United States prior to 1923 and, in all likelihood, are also the products of photographers who died over 100 years ago. However, the selection and arrangement of these three photographs into a single photomontage represent an original work of art and I, the "artist", donate that work to the public domain.
