Many prion protein transformations are characterized by increased ß-sheet content (depicted by green arrows). In this picture, the left image is the normal PRNP protein. After isomerization, note that the right-side image contains considerably more ß-sheet content. These ß-sheets often constitute an electric dipole and can lead to amyloid aggregation.
